Canine distemper is a serious and highly contagious viral disease that affects dogs of all ages. In India, this disease is often overlooked due to lack of awareness. Canine distemper is caused by the canine distemper virus (CDV). It affects the respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems. Once the virus enters the body, it spreads quickly and weakens the dog’s immune system.
Distemper spreads through direct contact with infected dogs and through air droplets from coughing or sneezing. Shared food bowls, bedding, and close contact increase the risk of infection.
